Faux Letterpress Effect

I do not have a letterpress but, dang, I wish I did! Fortunately, there is a way to make that effect without having a letterpress. The letterpress effect has become super popular the past couple years. I often see it used in logos and business cards. So if you have to create a large sign, a logo sketch, or just want to practice a different style of lettering then this is for you!

Materials:

Tombow H4 Pencil

Tombow Dual Brush Pen Black No. 25

Sharpie - Gold

Step 1 - Sketch out the word, phrase, or logo you are wanting to design. In my case I chose the word "Karma."

Step 2 - Use your Tombow Dual Brush Pen No. 25 over your sketch. For this effect you should go over the letters a couple times to make the word a bit thicker. Then let the ink dry for about 5 minutes.

Step 3 - Bust out that Gold Sharpie and start making some small dots in the middle of each line. You should do the dots a little thicker and closer together in the middle. Then as you get closer to the edge the dots should become smaller and a little more separated. That way you create the look of the press.

Step 4 - Let your artwork dry and wahhhlaa!
